Disappearing Streams
|
"When you put your hand in a flowing stream, you touch the last that has gone before and the first of what is still to come."
-Leonardo Da Vinci
Serenity has been installing disappearing streams for years, the popuarity of this particular water feature is growing rapidly. This is a great alternative for someone who isn't quite sure about getting a full-fledged pond. Some people are a little bit gun-shy when it comes to ponds because of mosquitos. And although ponds that contain biological and mechanical filters are constantly being re-circulated, discouraging mosquitos, the threat of West Nile is very scary.

Standing water can also be scary for people with young children. We all know how fast children move, and the thought of having a pond so close their play areas discourages some from considering a water garden Other people do not want the responsibility of fish or they do not have enough room.
If you have longed for the soothing sounds of flowing water but have concerns about a pond, a disappearing stream is your answer.
You might ask "How does this work?" "Where does the water go?" well a Pondless waterfall or disappearing stream works not unlike a regular pond would. We dig a hole deeper than a normal pond, then line with rock and gravel, and fill with water. The water is circulated beneath the rocks and gravel by a pump that sits on the bottom. We run a pipe from pump up to a biofalls filter and into an overflowing waterfall or stream, where it falls back into the reservoir. It's that simple.
